Rexroad APG - Our Story
" I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it." - Thomas Jefferson
Business Philosophy: There are no short cuts
In 1990 Joseph Rexroad and Barbara Hough met as new hires to a preeminent Colorado Springs military master planning firm;
Nakata Planning Group. Over the next 13 years Mr. Rexroad leveraged his formal training in architecture and innate design
skills to contribute to multiple award winning planning projects. Ms. Hough honed her skills in geospatial information
systems and project management while gaining a wide breadth of experience in federal contracting. Military planning
remained the career focus for both while job roles changed with increased responsibility. In 2003 a decision was made
to form a partnership taking the best lessons learned from working for both large and small companies and start a new firm.
The founding principles established then endure as touchstones today to measure the success of each task order.
The Rexroad APG philosophy centers on an unrelenting drive to produce the highest quality work with unsurpassed client service.
This isn’t always easy but that’s the point.
Planning Philosophy: Dream big but put it on the ground
The partners of Rexroad APG have carefully managed growth in order to build capability through the right balance of staff
members who share a drive for perfection. Staffing plans included the best designers to visualize future land patterns that
result in legacy installations. The search for personnel also included planners with expertise in relevant policy to ensure
each concept has considered all constraints to implementation. Military master planning competence is defined by a creative
consideration of every alternative in conjunction with analytical expertise to address all guidance, standards, technical
criteria and restrictions that could interfere with execution. The staff at Rexroad APG is proficient at turning constraints
into opportunities while making plans a reality.
Design Philosophy: Maintain readiness while building communities
The overarching goal of any military planning project is to improve mission effectiveness. Our perspective of readiness
encompasses the entire community as we develop plans that improve quality of life, promote fitness through pedestrian networks,
create a sense of community, minimize environmental impact and operating expense. This isn’t a green thing, it’s a good thing
and we’ve been doing it since day one.
