BASE GENERAL PLAN UPDATE, CLEAR AFS
The General Plan developed for Clear Air Force Station incorporated a visioning session and Long Range Vision Plan facilitated by Rexroad APG staff with key personnel. The major thrust of the Capital Improvements Plan will result in a reduction of excess facilities. The implementation of this plan will support sustainability by optimizing Operations & Maintenance practices and shifting these resources to high-performance buildings with long-term value. The removal of more than 400,000 SF of legacy facilities left over from the cold war era will save the installation and the AF millions of dollars O&M costs and is expected to result in 50,000 pounds per hour additional heating capacity. Clear AFS is one of three ballistic missile early warning system (BMEWS) stations and is a vital component of the defense of the United States and Canada. This important mission demands 99.99 percent operational capability at all times. To meet this requirement all proposed projects in the plan include extremely detailed staging and implementation with consideration of all potential impacts.
