SIDEWALK AND BICYCLE PATH PLAN, SCHRIEVER AFB
Walking is the oldest and most fundamental form of human mobility. It is clean, efficient, healthy and requires little infrastructure investment when compared to motor vehicle transportation. However, most North American developments of the past century, including cities and military installations, owe their design to the modern automobile. This evolution in planning and design has subsequently created physical environments that fail to adequately accommodate the pedestrian or the bicyclist. The purpose of the Sidewalk and Bicycle Path Plan (SBPP) is to establish an improved circulation framework through proposed projects and design standards across Schriever Air Force Base (SAFB). Additionally, recommendations in the SBPP will increase opportunities for non-motorized transportation, physical fitness and result in a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and related emissions.
